The mission behind Urban Impact Advisors

We believe that great institutions can enrich the quality of human life and build a better future. After decades of helping to lead several of America’s finest universities and drive change in cities and regions, we founded Urban Impact Advisors to partner with ambitious institutions to solve important problems. Our projects require detailed analysis, extensive input from communities and careful implementation. Most of our clients work with us on a long-term basis.

Our Process

Our approach is clear.
Our methodology includes four essential steps:

1.

Understanding the Problem

Reaching beyond the surface to understand the challenge, from the perspective of all stakeholders.

2.

Understanding The Experience of Others

Few if any organizational challenges are unique. We learn by reviewing how others have tried to solve similar problems, successfully or not.

3.

Invention

We work to invent multiple possible solutions to any problem, generating discussion and options for our clients.

4.

Testing

We test all of the options generated against predetermined criteria. Issues addressed include resources required, internal capacity for implementation and the need for change management.

“Hank Webber brings to each project a rare combination of deep analytic skills, an understanding of how to create impactful change, and a commitment to make the world a better place.”

Ken Oliff
Vice President for Research & Partnerships,
Saint Louis University

“I have worked with Hank Webber for twenty-five years. Over that time, he led several of the most ambitious and best-executed campus and urban development projects in the United States, including the East End of the Danforth Campus, the Cortex Innovation District, and a myriad of less visible but catalytic investments in communities. He knows that the big vision matters, but so do the details needed to make transformations really work.  Hank brings together diverse stakeholders and builds high-functioning teams that enjoy working together and produce great results.”

Luanne Greene
FAIA, LEED AP, President,
Ayers Saint Gross

“As Board Chair of the Cortex Innovation District, Hank, along with CEO Dennis Lower, led Cortex to becoming a national model of an anchor-led innovation district.”

Sam Fiorello
President and CEO,
Cortex Innovation District

“Hank Webber has made lasting and significant contributions to the physical development and to administrative and academic programs of Washington University.  He has also created positive momentum for the City of St. Louis and the entire St. Louis region from his leadership of efforts to build innovation and entrepreneurship. He is thoughtful, creative and strategic. He develops and implements plans and programs with rare skill.”

Mark Wrighton, Ph.D.
Chancellor Emeritus,
‍Washington University

"In my decade of working regionally and nationally alongside leaders committed to answering the calls coming from reports, analysis, and tragedy for more equitable policies and outcomes, Hank Webber stands out for his ability to listen, honor expertise different from his own, and to ask and consider the hard questions. Different outcomes don’t come from repeating the same actions. Hank’s expertise coupled with his willingness to stay in hard questions — and answers — makes him a go-to person to have on a team if sustainable transformative outcomes are the goal."

Nicole Hudson
Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Academy for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Washington University and the Fomer Deputy Mayor of the City of St Louis.
